PATRICIA
DE NICOLAÏ
PATRICIA
DE NICOLAÏ is Born in Paris in 1957, Patricia always
spent her childhood in the Guerlain family house in
Paris. She has been in contact with 4 generation of
Guerlain’s. Her great grandfather was the company
director with his brother and has been extremely successful;
from her youngest age she was in contact with the latest
creation of the family company. Then her grandmother
a real character, loving nature and animals: Her table
has a very good reputation because she was one of the
first to mix aromas and food. Her boudoir was an extension
of family laboratory and was the place where the most
famous fragrances, like Shalimar, were discussed, in
close circle. Her bathroom was always fragranced by
giant soaps smelling geranium or iris; her own fragrance
was “après l’ondée”.
During
her holidays, Patricia learned to notice underwood smells
in the famous wildlife reservation called Sologne, or
along desert beaches to breathe the smells of the sea
in Britany.
But her family history goes even futher as her mother
is one of the most distinguished wine-maker in Burgundy,
having a unique talent to tract and preserve all the natural
aromas of wine.

Later
Patricia studied chemistry and attended ISIPCA university
specialised in perfumery, in Versailles, created by her uncle
Jean-Jacques Guerlain. Now the reputation of this shool is
very high and attracts young people from all around the world.
Quickly she developed talents for perfume creation. She has
not been able to work in the family business, now sold to
the LVMH group, but Jean-Paul Guerlain was her coach and thanks
to him she has been trained in the best possible companies,
places where you really learn the job to become a perfumer.
In 1989, with her husband, she started NICOLAI, and decided
to continue a prestigious family history more than 200 years
old. The perfumer is never the star, the products is the only
star, and the customer is its defendant.
With an impressive number of creation, Patricia de Nicolai
has succeeded to build one of the largest collection of fragrance
of the contemporary perfume business. 12 women fragrances,
6 eau de toilette for men, 5 eaux fraîches, 5 colognes,
3 fragrances for cosmetic. And also 19 fragrances for the
house, and 40 fragrances for lamp. Impressive considering
the quantity and mainly the creativity and quality of each
one!
In all these creations her personal style appears, with her
special taste for white flowers, and musky notes. In each
formula her style bears also the signature of essential oils
she uses.
In 1988 she received the prize of the best international perfumer
from the French Society of Perfumer. She makes often conferences,
and is an active member of the french union of perfumers,
gathering the most well-known perfumers of the world.
